We were left a little disappointed as the main submarine that you can actually walk through, only had one guide at the entrance where the forward torpedo are. We revisited the Historic Dockyard specifically to see this museum as it was shut when we visited earlier this year. The coffee in the hut was good, and there were plenty of facilities such as loos dotted around. On a positive note, the staff were friendly (and apologetic for the waits). We were told we could go to the explosion museum with our ticket, either a 40 min walk away or you guessed it, another wait for the water bus and back and to be honest we couldn’t face it so went to the shopping mall instead! The day ticket is not worth the money in my opinion and you would be best buying an explorer ticket, in hindsight I wish we had, but as a single parent I was conscious of the price of that as I had already spent out over £60 for the 3 tickets. Because we only had a day ticket that was our visit- one queue session, we sadly didn’t see anything else. We felt rushed on the submarine as people behind us wanted to move on through. queue for the water bus, queue to get on the sub, queue for the coffee hut, queue for the water bus for the second time! That was a shame as we spent nearly two hours in queues for an attraction that took an hour to see. However we spent most of the day queuing, queue to get into the site. The submarine itself was impressive, well preserved and the museum was interesting.

Anyway called the day before leaving and was told to turn up at the dockyard for the time slot. Only gave me the option to book a slot for the dockyard, and it wasn’t until later that I saw that you have to scroll right the way down to the bottom of the page to book tickets and a slot for the gosport sites. Booked online and the link from the submarine page took me to the tickets and booked from there. We had a very enjoyable visit.Ĭhose a day ticket as we were travelling only for the day from some distance away. There was lots to see although for us HMS Alliance stole the show. The whole site was very clean and the toilets were spotless. When we booked our tickets online we had a problem in that we did not receive an email with our “returner I.D.” and after phoning customer services (and holding for over an hour) we were left exasperated as the person on the phone was useless and told us that there was no way we could be sent this again by email as there was a glitch in the system! However when we checked in we gave our details and were told that it would not be a problem and we would receive our returner I.D by email later that day which we duly did.Īll of the staff that we spoke to were friendly, polite and helpful. As we made our way to the entrance we noticed a member of staff (later we realised that he was a guide) picking up odd bits of litter on his way into work which we thought showed the care and passion of the people who run this place.

Upon arrival it was great to find that parking was free (a rare commodity in portsmouth!). We had purchased an “Ultimate Explorer Ticket” which included the Submarine Museum.
